Closet Organization

I have always loved to organize and make a space look as beautiful as possible. My closet has never been an exception to this mindset. I was never sure how to create the closet of my dreams since I live in an old house so there are no walk-in closets! Thankfully I have never needed more space, but simply a unit that would store all of my items in an organized fashion.

I ended up purchasing the Aurdal unit from Ikea as well as some additional Burhult shelves to create a custom closet feel for a fraction of the price. I also loved that you can add additional shelves or drawers later on as well as adjust the hanging rails as your closet evolves.

The shelves in my closet are mainly used to store all of my sweaters and handbags. I also style the shelves with decor items and some of the smaller accessories that I frequently use.

I do not store my handbags in their dust bags since they are away from any heat or direct light. I do stuff most of them with tissue or soft garments to help preserve their shape.

I have always preferred wearing a dress to pants or jeans. This meant I wanted to create a section in my closet specifically set up to properly store my longer and bulky dressed. Creating a rail with lots of hanging room worked perfectly especially since it left additional room underneath to store my shoes.

I am absolutely obsessed with buying and wearing jackets. I have little self-control when buying what I view to be such a practical element in everyone's closet. I am very proud of my coat collection so I wanted to ensure it had the proper space to shine.

I ended up storing my denim alongside my jackets as the length of space in this section was accommodating. I also own a small enough denim collection that it did not infringe on my seasonal outer layers.

Beneath that rail, I have a small shelve that houses my very small collection of shorts. On my final hanging rail, I have my dress pants for work as well as all of my blouses. For organizing my blouses I have them by color and I try to group patterned tops together for a clean look.

My dufflebag does have its own shelf as I like to use a lot of my items as display pieces. This bag also works as a great option to store my spare blankets.

My sweaters are all kept folded so that they don't get misshapen and then I can see all of the options available.

As for shoes, I do keep my Hunter boots and my sandals in the actual shelving unit. This just worked best with the height of my boot and the space available. My other shoes are all stored out in the open by type so that I can easily see all of my options based on what style I want to wear that day.

I love to look at other people's closets to get inspiration on organization and to see their styles shine through into a space.
